Philippines – Secret police operatives from Vietnam have taken measures to endanger the DH6 Organizing Committee. Although DH6 is a youth conference focusing on issues of internet freedom and held outside of their jurisdiction, Vietnamese security services have taken the following measures to disrupt the conference:

  1. Intelligence operatives from Vietnam have tried to register for the event. During the conference, the Organizing Committee identified and expelled one undercover intelligence operative.
  2. Vietnamese security officials were present at the Manila airport in the days prior to the conference to secretly film arriving delegations and tried to mix in with attendees during public outings.
  3. According to a knowledgeable source, Vietnamese security police plan to hire criminal elements to physically harm members of the Organizing Committee.

Hanoi's security police not only repress peaceful voices at home but are undertaking illegal acts of terror in another nation, the Philippines.

The objective of the 6th International Vietnam Youth Conference is to provide an environment for Vietnamese youths from around the world to share ideas and cooperate on projects to harness the promise of the internet for social change.

The Organizing Committee has informed the Philippines authorities and is releasing this statement to publicize this security issue.

The Len Duong International Vietnamese Youth Network was founded in 1999 at our first conference in Melbourne, Australia by student and youth leaders with a passion for a better Vietnam. Since then, Len Duong continually strives to provide an engaging and collaborative environment for Vietnamese youths across the world to partake in dialogue and utilize their skills and knowledge to contribute to society. Len Duong is proud of our progress in providing a deeper understanding on Vietnam human rights issues as we continue to advocate for those who are disenfranchised.
